Saint-Gobain’s first radome project in China has been finished successfully

2020-02-21

On 9th Jan 2020, a metal grid radome by Saint-Gobain was successfully installed in a signal receiving station of the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth at Xinjiang for satellite communications and remote sensing surveys, which uses more than 1,800 square meters of SHEERGARD® M26 high performance radome special film material. This is also Saint-Gobain's first radome project in the Chinese market.

9th Jan 2020, Saint-Gobain SHEERGARD® Radome Project was finished at Xinjiang

Due to the high working frequency and wide frequency band of the antenna of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the traditional FRP radome cannot meet the high-precision transmission requirements of the antenna. Saint-Gobain SHEERGARD® M26 is a wave-transmitting composite material designed for RF applications with extremely low transmission loss. The permanent hydrophobic surface of the film can ensure that the radome can have excellent wave permeability in rainy and snowy days. Its self-cleaning performance can also help the receiving station resist the long-term erosion of wind and sand in the northwest, and the film can even provide protection at extreme temperatures from -73℃ to 148 ℃.

The completion of the new radome has significantly reduced the damage to antenna equipment caused by bad weather and the critical surrounding environment, also improved the reliability and stability of the operation of the antenna system, thereby ensuring that it can better support the satellite missions of the country and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the future.
